GLENN ALTSCHULD, age 89, died September 9, 2019. He was born on March 12, 1930, to the late Harry Altschuld and Josephine (Wodichkova) Altschuld. He was the beloved husband of the late Audrey (Lumbley) Altschuld, sister of the late June Altschuld, and father of the late Victor H. Altschuld. He is survived by his sister Rae Ducatman (Altschuld), brother Dr. James Altschuld, Ph.D. (Ruth, Ph.D.) and sons Colonel (Ret.) Glenn N. Altschuld, Jr., USAF (Susan) and Matthew W.A. Alan, Esq. (Tammie); dear grandfather of four, Glenn Daniel Altschuld (Ashley), Michael J. Moore, Demi R. Moore and Cara Audrey Alan; and great-grandfather of two, Jacob Altschuld and Olivia Altschuld; loving uncle of several nephews and nieces; and grand-uncle to their children. Glenn grew up in the Kinsman neighborhood of Cleveland during the Great Depression and a World War. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marine (1949-1951) and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps, having attained the rank of sergeant and having served state-side during the Korean War (1951-1953). He was a sports fan who mostly enjoyed boxing, serving as an employed boxing trainer for several years. He earned a B.A. in Education from Fenn College (now Cleveland State University), and a M.A. in Education from Western Reserve University (now CWRU), the latter of which he received simultaneously with his brother Jim who earned a B.A from WRU. He served as a teacher in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights school system until his retirement. He served twenty years (1970-1990) as President of the Cleveland Heights Teacher’s Union as well as in key leadership positions with the Ohio Federation of Teachers, the American Federation of Teachers and the AFL-CIO. He was a member of his Unitarian Universalist congregation for nearly 65 years. He will be interred in a private family ceremony at Lake View Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland at 2728 Lancashire Road, Cleveland Heights. In lieu of flowers, donations in Glenn’s name can be made to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the National Rifleman’s Association, or the National Alliance for Mental Illness.   1. This is the his great-grandson, Jacob. I was 8 when he died and cried myself to sleep for the next two weeks. At the funeral I had a hard time saying my line, which was only one sentence. I love more than god.
