BARTOW – Mr. James Earl Whittington, 72, passed away Monday, August 26, 2019 in Bartow, FL. Mr. Whittington was born April 12, 1947 in Polk County, FL and was the son of Rev. Lewis and Myrtice Whittington. He was a member and president of the Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Fort Meade where he was a very active member, and where his father was a longtime pastor. Mr. Whittington was a self employed auto mechanic in Fort Meade, Arcadia and Bartow, and also worked as an over the road truck driver. He loved to sing and had his own band, The Edgin Ends, and he also was a graduate of Fort Meade High School, class of 1965. Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Allen Whittington. He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Sophia Whittington, Bartow, FL; sons, J.J. Whittington and wife Angie, Marietta, GA, Kevin Whittington and wife Wendy, Riverview, FL, Todd Wooten and wife Lee, Wauchula, FL; daughter, Tonya Settle and husband Keith, Lake Wales, FL; eight grandchildren, Olivia, Benji, Bradley, Tanner, Tabitha, Zachary, Jacob and Seth. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2019 from the Full Gospel Fellowship Church, 1775 Hwy. 17, South, Fort Meade, with Pastor Robert Murphy officiating.
