Valiantly and courageously fought cancer in several forms for nearly thirty years, then quietly fell asleep at home, Monday August 26, 2019. Karen was born on October 29, 1951 in Chicopee, MA to Humphrey C. Hardy and Janet Elizabeth Chaffin-Lee, and was the eldest of four children. Victor Woolridge was blessed by God to meet Karen as he held the door for entering work one rainy morning, and quickly wed this vision of beauty on June 2, 1985. Never at loss for words, Karen lived her life based upon these two commandments: to love God with all her heart, soul, and mind…..And to love her neighbor as herself. Karen was a professional, but didn’t let this define her. Karen was elegant, bit didn’t allow her elegance to dictate her friendships. She lived life abundantly, and took nothing for granted. She loved to sing Gospel music, and had an unending support for children. Karen saw the needs of people that most of us could not see, and then sought to fill that need. She was unafraid to speak her mind and told you what she thought without the aid of a filter. She was genuine, fun loving, and honest. A loving servant of people and God. Karen used her infectious personality to embraced life and the people around her. She was a seamstress and kept a sewing kit on her emergency mending needs; she created beautiful cards for all occasions, and was an amazing storyteller. Known for being able to highhandedly carry a conversation, she could talk your head off and was relentless about anything she focused her attention on. She believed in living life to its fullest and saving room for dessert. She had an appreciation for table manners, loved fine china, quality fabrics and writing paper. Karen loved hats, gloves, and always kept a fine purse on hand. She made sure her dining room table was always set and preferred linen to paper napkins, and crystal instead of paper plates and cups. a woman of distinction, by all means….but don’t mess with her or her children because you might get cussed out – remember the Apostle Peter cursed, so don’t judge this Christian lady. Family was everything to her, and if you ever got into a conversation about her ancestry research, you knew this. In recent years, she fell in love with taking cruises, and her tenacious carefree spirit seemed to always have my number, and I have no idea how I won her hand. Previously married, Karen ran a hotel in Barbados before returning to Springfield, MA. Predeceased by her father, and two aunts, she leaves four siblings: H. Christopher Hardy, Jr; Kimberly Elizabeth Hardy; Kathrina Earl Dawn Hardy and Michelle Lang Hardy- Rodriguez. Her four loving children: James Halton Hardy-Martin; Matoaca Virginia Hardy-Martin; Kara Jean Hardy-Woolridge and Kendra Victoria Hardy-Woolridge. Five beautiful grandchildren: Skylar Jouney Hardy-Martin; Nyomi Enola Elaine Hardy Quamina: Joshua Isiah Moore; Austin Liam Cole Hardy-Fletcher, Olivia Taylor Hardy-Martin and many, many friends whom were blessed and infected with her zest for life and love of our human family. We will miss her dearly. “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.” Proverbs 18:22 Please honor Karen by making a charitable contribution to (a) the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care, or (b) Baystate Hospice: The Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199 SERVICES Celebration of Life Wednesday, September 04, 2019 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM St. John’s Congregational Church 45 Hancock Steer Springfield, MA 01109 Get Directions on Google Maps Print Obituary Sign Guestbook Name: Location: Video: Image: Light A Candle Candle 1 Candle 2 Candle 3 Candle 4 Email: Please keep my message private Personal Message: Personal Message (required) Confirm: Submit Guestbook entry
