Paul’s Obituary With deep sadness, we acknowledge the passing of our dad, Paul, but we celebrate in the certainty that he is at peace in the arms of his Lord and Savior. He always showed a deep love for our mom, Winnie (Kreuser), whom he met at a roller-skating rink in Menomonee Falls, Wis., while she was still in high school. Despite the four-year difference in age, they won one another’s hearts and were married for nearly 70 years. He was a man of deep faith, never missing Sunday Mass and leading meal prayers at the Wesleyan Assisted Living facility dining room. His singing voice was beautiful, earning him numerous compliments at Wesleyan group singing sessions. Our dad was a real athlete in high school. He was captain of the football team, Homecoming King and starred as the Center for the basketball team. He carried his love of sports into his 20s and 30s as a member of a Menomonee Falls softball league and was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. When we were young, dad worked long hours as a carpenter – often on weekends. He was sought after for the outstanding quality of his detailed finishing work. He built the house we grew up in and designed and built another beautiful house after we moved away from home. We always knew that dad could fix anything. He patiently repaired the damage after a few childhood mishaps – like the time we accidently backed the riding lawn mower into the garage wall, leaving a hole in the sheetrock. Or the time mom and dad left us alone for an evening when we were teenagers and we carelessly cooked popcorn in the coil-heated popcorn maker on the laminate kitchen counter without putting a cutting board under the popper. Dad repaired the counter by cutting out the damaged laminate and inserting two ceramic tiles at the spot—the perfect fix. He inspired us with a love of travel through countless family weekend camping trips to various parks and campgrounds in southern Wisconsin and travel across the country to visit relatives and friends. Their first international travel was to Europe while Ken and Barb were stationed with the Army in Germany and they later visited Australia and New Zealand followed by Italy and the British Isles and Norway on a wonderful family cruise in 2006. Even after we ‘left the nest,’ our parents continued their yearly travels and made many lifelong, treasured friends who accompanied them on their life journey. When they settled into their new home in a Sun City development in Texas, they quickly embraced their new community through participation in various activities. Mom and dad were founding members of the “Shirts and Skirts” square dance group, which provided countless hours of camaraderie and fun. He was a World War II veteran, serving honorably in the U.S. Navy. In his final years, dad demonstrated unending perseverance despite the ongoing effects of medications for the treatment of Parkinsons and the frailties of old age. He was a loving dad to Barbara (Ken) and Beverly, an endlessly patient grandfather to Brynn (Jared) and caring great-grandfather to Abigael, Alice and Anelise. He frequently told us how proud he was of his family and never missed an opportunity to express gratitude for time we spent with him and mom. Well done, dad! We love you; rest in peace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Geneva Larsen, and is survived by his sister, Grace Stuettgen. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on July 15, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10205 FM 620 North, Austin, TX. Private burial service with military honors will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Interim Healthcare Foundation, ATTN: Bridget M., 3309 101st Street – Suite A, Lubbock, TX 79423 Phone: 806-771-0995 Read More
