Winifred’s Obituary Winifred Louise Burchell, 83, passed over into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 21st, at home. She joined the love of her life, Duke, who passed almost 10 months ago. Winnie, as she was known by family and friends, was born in Wichita Kansas, on December 24th, 1935. She was 1 of 10 children born to Ivan Carl and Mildred Rose Ware. She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings and her husband of 62 years, Duke Burchell. She is survived by 1 sibling, Barbara Burley of Clarksville, AR. She is also survived by 2 daughters, Deborah Bishop, of Harrison; Darla Burchell-West of Harrison; 3 grandchildren, Tera Case and her husband Joel, and their children Douglas Case and Whitley Allen of Lead Hill; Hannah Dillon of Springdale and Wally West IV of Fort Smith. Winnie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Patsy Ware, who she loved very much, as well as many nieces and nephews. Winnie was the picture of the perfect wife, mom and nonny. She was known for her immaculate home, her cooking skills of wonderful meals and scrumptious desserts. She was a wonderful hostess and many of the Sterling, Magic Mart, Ben Franklin and Rolling Oaks subdivision parties were organized by Winnie. Winnies’ sewing and crafting abilities were well known. Her final project was a miniature doll house, which took her several years to complete. It is truly a work of art. Although she was not a paid employee, Winnie worked side by side with Duke throughout his career, in whatever capacity she was needed, in addition to being a homemaker. It was her idea to have Duke dress up as an Easter bunny and she made his first costume. It was a roaring success and she also made up wonderful Easter baskets to sell in the stores. Winnie loved Cardinals and was gifted throughout the years with hundreds of figurines, plaques, prints and other items featuring the beautiful red birds. She designed 3 of the homes that Duke had built for her. Winnie loved cooking, gardening and decorating; she especially loved to decorate for Christmas because she, as she explained, was a Christmas baby. Everyone who met her, came to know her sweet spirit. Visitation is at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. both on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Holt Memorial Chapel. Pastor Kerry Liggett will officiate. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gary Hampton, Jamie Holt, Wally West IV, Scott Moles, Jerry Mefford, and Joel Case. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Geoffrey Dunaway, Staff at Legacy Hospice, Liz Witt, and Galicia Trammell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. Read More
