Steven James Oliver March 4 1962 April 25 2019 (age 57)

Steven J. Oliver, 57, of Geneseo, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019, after a valiant battle with clear cell renal cell carcinoma. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019, at Concordia Lutheran Church. Cremation rites will be accorded by Vandemore Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Steven Oliver Memorial Fund. Steven James Oliver was born on March 4th, 1962, the oldest child of James I. Oliver and Anna (Ann) G. (Viner) Oliver, in Omaha, NE. He grew up on a farm between Pisgah, IA and Woodbine, IA. He loved his hometown and the beauty of the Loess Hills and had many fond, childhood memories. He enjoyed playing with his brothers, Deron and Kendall, and then spending time with them as adults. The three boys were just 18 months apart. In high school, Steve enjoyed running track, playing football and playing the trombone in his high school band. After graduating from Mondamin High School, Steve attended University of Iowa and received a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He graduated in 1985. He met Rebecca (Schatz) Oliver while attending the University of Iowa. They were married for 23 years and later divorced. Steve met Audra (Shoemaker), while working at Alcoa. They married on September 26th, 2008 in Davenport, IA. and moved to Geneseo. Steve worked at Alcoa, now Arconic, for 28 years, as an IT Tech. He was known as the go-to-guru of the department. Steve dreamed of being a father. Ryan Matthew Oliver was born on June 12th, 2009. Steve focused on family life and transformed himself into a man quite different than the one he once was. In April of 2010, he adopted Audra’s daughter, Jordan (Shoemaker) Oliver. In November of 2016, Steve discovered he had stage 4 kidney cancer. It was a time in which he reevaluated his agonistic beliefs. He attended church services at Concordia Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod in Geneseo, and became a member of the church. Steve was baptized with his son, Ryan, on March 5th, 2017. Steve enjoyed Iowa Hawkeyes football, basketball, and baseball. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. Steve will always be remembered for the stubborn, caring, loving, cancer fighting, sports rooting, God fearing man that he was. Survivors include his wife, Audra (Shoemaker) Oliver; children, Jordan and Ryan Oliver; brothers, Deron Oliver of Sioux City, IA and Kendall Oliver of Bronson, IA; mother, Anna (Ann) Oliver of Woodbine, IA, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Jeanette Shoemaker of Geneseo; niece, Allie Oliver and nephews, Austin and Noah Oliver.
