Sonja Gayle Lovins Folkner passed away April 27, 2019 at her residence. She was born July 6, 1944 to the late Carl Kendall and Connie Arlena Haga Lovins. Sonja was a 1961 graduate from John S. Battle High School. She was employed b Washington County Highway Department before marrying William C. Folkner in July 1964. She dedicated her life to being a mother, grandmother and homemaker to her loving family. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she faithfully held many positions to be a servant of her Lord. Sonja was an avid gardener and baker which she shared in common with her mother. For many years she provided arrangements for the Worship service from her garden. She and her mother contributed numerous Hickory Nut pies for the Lord’s Acre Sale. She also shared her delicacies with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, William Folkner; daughters, Tamara Giles and husband, Tom, Monika Hamby and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Channing Hamby and fiancé, Brian Harding, Connor Hamby, Savanna Giles; brother, Terry lovins and wife, Barbara. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her loving caregiver, Sue Perry and the staff of Avalon Hospice for their compassionate care given to Sonja. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 pm, Monday, April 29, 2019 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Griffith and Rev. Susan Arnold officiating. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 pm prior to the service. The committal and interment will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 in Mountain View Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Ladies Circle of Aldersgate UMC.
