Shirley’s Obituary Shirley Ray Bounds, 83 of Blanchard, Louisiana passed away on April 25, 2019. Memorial funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Vivian, LA, officiated by Rev. Hart Clawson. Shirley was born on April 27, 1935 in Belcher, LA to Jim and Maudie Bounds. He lived in Vivian most of his life and was a member of First Baptist Church Vivian. He served his country in the United States Air Force, enlisting at 18 and working as a flight engineer in the Vietnam War. He retired after 22 years of service. Shirley worked at VIP and Vivian Marine for 17 years, helped his nephew Roy Phelps put in sprinkler systems, and worked alongside his brother Jimmy Bounds at The Body Shop in Vivian. Shirley took pride in serving his community. He was vivacious, quick with a joke, and never met a stranger. He was a member of the Vivian City Council and was very proud to serve as Mayor of Vivian in the early 2000s. Working as a sales associate for 10 years at Home Depot, Shirley said, was the best job he ever had, and he was popular with his coworkers and customers alike. Anyone who walked into Home Depot on Airline Drive knew when he was working because of the crowd of people gathered around him, and coworkers say they could always hear him even before they saw him. Shirley is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Benita Bounds, his brothers, Buck, J. C., and Lonnie, and by his sister, Margie. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Debbie Bounds of Blanchard, LA. He leaves behind his children, Russell Bounds and wife Cindy of Winchester, TN; Malcolm Bounds of Seattle, WA; Lori Beeman of Bossier City, LA; Lyman McKellar and Kirk of Bossier City, LA; and Sam McKellar and wife Carol of Parker, CO. He is warmly remembered by his brothers, Martin Leverts and wife Jo of Waskom, TX and Jimmy Bounds and wife Elaine of Vivian, LA; and by his sisters, Betty Woodell and husband Jerry of Oil City, LA; and Carolyn Capps and husband Buddy of Jefferson, TX. Shirley was lovingly called “Pap” by his grandchildren, who brought him his greatest joy. Those beloved grandchildren are Jeremy Bounds and wife Lauren of Scottsdale, AZ; Chris Bounds and wife Sarah of Fairbanks, AK; Lily McKellar of Parker, CO; Trent Beeman and wife Haley of Shreveport, LA and Sidney Beeman of Bossier City, LA, as well as great-grandchildren Ryder Bounds and Rhys Bounds of Scottsdale, AZ.
