Obituary of Shell Ove Lennart Hansson Shell Hansson passed away April 22, 2019 while surrounded by his family. Born in Sweden on June 14, 1933, he moved to America as a young man. He eventually made his way to Lahaina, Maui where he fell in love with Hawaii’s aloha spirit. He opened several retail stores and became known as the “Maui Mad Hatter.” He continued to moonlight playing drums for different gigs on the island and in his later years was able to share his encyclopedic knowledge of the island as a tour guide. After he developed Alzheimer’s, he moved to Rome, NY to be cared for by his family. Shell is survived by his wife Charlotte; a sister, Eivor; son and daughter-in-law, Joakim and Vanessa; and four grandchildren, Anders, Rebekah, Abigail and Katherine. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
