Thompson, age 97, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Monday, April 1, 2019 at Grand Village. Ruth was born in 1921 to Robert and Ella Stewart in Henning, MN. Ruth graduated from Henning High School and then moved to Minneapolis, MN. Ruth and Earl Thompson were united in marriage on January 5, 1942 in Golden Valley, MN. They moved to Staples, MN in 1962 and owned and operated the Sunset Motel until their move to Northome, MN in 1973, where they purchased Little Wolf Resort. The family moved to Grand Rapids in 1982. Ruth was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Rapid, MN and a treasured member of the Circle. Ruth was a dedicated mother to her children, especially Judianne. She was an excellent cook and gardener and she loved crafting and sewing and collecting salt and pepper shakers. Ruth spent much of her time visiting Judianne at Grand Village, taking her for walks; so, it was appropriate that Ruth spend her last years at Grand Village herself. Preceded in death by her husband, Earl; daughter, Judianne; grandson, Thomas; and three brothers, Bud, Jack and Jim. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Denise “Sue” Invie, Bambi (David) Lange, and April Hollenhorst; brother, Ray; seven grandchildren, David, Holly, Tamara, Kevin, Robert, Raven, and Yohanah; nine great grandchildren; and many special cousins. Visitation will be Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10:00 at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN followed by the 11:00 am Memorial Service. Rev. Marva Jean Hutchens will officiate. Burial will be at Inman Cemetery in Henning, MN at a later date.
