Obituary Sit down servant, servant sit down, I just got to heaven, oh, I can’t sit down. Henry and Isabelle Wallace’s baby daughter is one of the Lord’s servants, who has always had a problem sitting down and resting. On the evening of Saturday, April 13, 2019 she took her rest. Quietly, she left us and went to join her husband, parents, siblings and all those that knew and loved her. We will miss her here on earth, but Rosie Johnson’s 95-year journey has been completed. Born Rosalee Wallace, she started her journey in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on May 6, 1923. As a child she and her siblings lived in Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas. She made her journey to Eskridge, Kansas where she was raised to love and serve God, help and be kind to others, work hard and play a baseball game when lookouts permitted. Amos and Annie Jackson provided her this home, this foundation that stayed with her. Rosalee graduated from Eskridge Rural High School in 1943 and then made her journey to Topeka. In Topeka, Rosalee made a few changes as she trained at the Kansas Technical Institute. She changed her name too, first and last, wed William Newton and her journey into motherhood was made with the birth of Richard Newton Sr. Rosie then took the journey into civil service, working at Hercules Ammunition then as an LPN for 38 years at the Veterans Administration in Topeka. Retiring in 1983. Her last matrimonial journey was with Willis Johnson, taking them into midlife parenthood by adopting a boy, Douglas and a girl, Sheri. During her entire 95 years she walked with the Lord, she knew Him her whole life. Upon her move to Topeka she joined Mt. Olive Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and a diligent servant to her church. We will miss her pound cakes! Rosie Lee impacted everyone who met and knew her. She made her neighborhood a better place. She leaves us her sons, Richard Newton, Sr. (Charlotte), Douglas Johnson (Therressa); daughter, Sheri Johnson; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Rosie’s journey has been completed. Her family wants to send a very warm thank you to our Asbury Mt. Olive UMC family, Ms. Sharon Rice her Sassy Pants teammate (Plaza West roommate) and the fantastic staff of Plaza West and Great Lakes Hospice.
