Ronald Clay Lawson, 94, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on April 27, 2019 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born February 24, 1925 near Monterey, Iowa to John Arthur “Art” and Iva Ethel Daniels Lawson. He married Letha Louise Schaffner on April 12, 1959 at the Christian Church Parsonage in Seymour, Iowa with his father-in-law officiating. The couple enjoyed 59 years together and raised two children, Dennis and Glenice. Letha passed away on June 19, 2018. Ronald was a farmer. He farmed the majority of his life with his brother, Donald, and then later with his son, Dennis. He also sheared sheep, was an auctioneer, worked as a security guard at the Davis County Fairgrounds, and did carpentry work building homes, businesses, and a school. He served on the Moulton-Udell School Board for many years. Ronald was a good-natured family man who loved to laugh, tell stories, spend time with family and friends, play croquet, and play cards. His card playing tactics included “Cheating in fun” from time to time. He is survived by his son, Dennis (Carol) Lawson of Bloomfield; daughter, Glenice (Howard) Graber of Bonaparte, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dustin (Kim) Lawson, Clarissa (Kyle) Prevo, Tiffany (Skyler) Howard, Tyler (Sylvia) Wagler; nine great-grandchildren, Gracie, Daylen, and Dalton Lawson, J.D., Lyla, Reed, and Emma Prevo, Ely Wagler, Adaline Howard; four sisters-in-law, Doris V. Lawson, Jerry, Carol, and Linda Schaffner; brother-in-law, Bob (Mary) Schaffner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Dyllan Lawson; six brothers, Flavey, Arthur, Clifford, Marvin, LaVerne, and Donald Lawson; and four sisters, Ilene Trimble, Reva, Faye, and Mable Lawson. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Reg Higginbottom officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset View Cemetery north of Moulton, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
