Rodney “Rod”‘s Obituary Rodney “Rod” Beidler, 62, of Perkasie, PA entered into rest on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Wendy (Rice) Beidler for 39 years. Rod was born in Sellersville, PA to the late Willard and Mamie (Metz) Beidler. Rod attended Penn View Christian School and graduated from Christopher Dock Mennonite High School in 1974. After graduation, Rod worked as a stock clerk for Landis Supermarket, where he and Wendy met. Rod also worked as a mechanic at Cope’s Garage in Souderton. Later, he worked for over 25 years as an oil truck driver and dispatcher at Farm & Home Oil Company in Telford. Most recently, he worked as an oil driver for Moyer Indoor Outdoor in Souderton. Rod was an active member of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, where he served as a videographer for church events. In the past, he was also involved in the Boy’s Club and Junior Youth programs. Rod loved spending time with his grandsons. He enjoyed annual family vacations to Ocean City, New Jersey and spending quiet time at the cabin in the Poconos, where he could sip his coffee on the porch and watch the wildlife. Rod had a love for running that began with the cross-country team in high school. Later, he began running races and eventually marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He was a founding member of the “Big 4” running group, where he proudly earned the nickname Dr. Pain and enjoyed mentoring and encouraging new runners. Rod enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, and being outdoors. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Rod was a man of good grace and quiet humor, which was frequently accentuated with well-timed eye rolls and belly laughs. He was known for his open mind and calm demeanor, accepting and discussing others’ opinions without judgement. After his diagnosis, he cherished the time he was given, frequently noting, “It’s been a good six years.” He was thankful to see the marriages of his son and daughter and the births of his grandsons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Travis W. Beidler & wife, Jessica of Bechtelsville, PA; his daughter, Marissa K. Moyer & husband, Charles “CK” of Gilbertsville, PA; his three grandsons – Jackson, Tanner, & Lincoln; his two sisters, Darlene Alderfer of McAlisterville, PA, Thelma Hunsberger & husband, James of Mount Pleasant Mills, PA; his two brothers, Donald Beidler & wife, Anita of Leola, PA, David Beidler & wife, Doreen of White River Junction, VT; and his two sisters-in-law, Joanna Beidler of Randolph, VT & Susan Beidler of Florence, OR. In addition to his parents, Rod was preceded in death by his two brothers, Murray Beidler & Willard Beidler, Jr. and his brother-in-law, Clyde Alderfer. A celebration of life will be held on Rod’s birthday, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 1:00pm at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, PA 18911. A private inurnment will take place at Blooming Glen Mennonite Columbarium. The mission of the organization is to see holistic transformation in the lives of our Haitian brothers and sisters through loving and lifetime relationships that serve and empower them. They facilitate summer programming in two communities that serve over 500 children and youth, and provide 90 work stipends to community members.
