Winsted: Robert Sackett Miles, 77, died on Thursday, April 18, 2019, with his wife by his side, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, following a short illness. He was the husband of Carol (Hamilton) Miles. Born in New York City, November 27, 1941, he was the son of the late Sackett Brooks Miles and Elizabeth Gaylord (Burwell) Miles and had lived in Winsted since 1984. Prior to his retirement from The Torrington Company a position he held for 37 years, he had graduated from Concordia Jr. College, received his BA from Pace University and his MBA from the University of Hartford. He was an avid tennis player & hiker, was a member of the 4000 footer club of the White Mountains, and a longtime member of the Brookside Farm Association and the Winsted Playground Association. In addition to his loving wife, Bob is survived by his three children, Robert Burwell Miles and his wife Marilyn of Barkhamsted, Ronald Buettner Miles of Goshen and Elizabeth Sackett (Miles) Connors and her husband Philip of New Hartford; one brother, George Burwell Miles and his wife Susy of Tarrytown, NY and four grandchildren, Peter, Robert, Joseph and Emma. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM at The First Church of Winsted, 95 North Main Street, Winsted. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Winsted, or to the Foothills VNA, 32 Union Street, Winsted, CT 06098.
