Rick Dean Meints, 60, of rural Cortland, died unexpectedly Friday night, April 26, 2019 at a Lincoln hospital while recovering from surgery. He was born on January 5, 1959 at Beatrice and graduated from Norris High School with the Class of 1977. For many years he was a brick tender prior to fulfilling a career of farming. He married the love of his life, Teresa Ann Martin on April 13, 1985. They were blessed with two sons, Zachary Ryan Meints and Jeremiah Dean Meints. Rick was a life-long member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell and had served on the church council. He was the current president of the Rural Fire Board, was a former member of the Highland Township Board, and the Cortland Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and had wonderful friends with which he spent many vacations. He enjoyed golfing and water volleyball. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Meints of Cortland; two sons, Zachary Meints and wife Rachel of Henderson, CO and Jeremiah “JD” Meints and wife Kayla of Elkhorn, NE; four grandchildren, Zoe, Alexa, Reese, and Greyson; two sisters, Kathy (Jim) Engler of Lincoln and Cindy (Les) Lieneman of Filley; two brothers, Roger (Jan) Meints of Lincoln and Paul (Carol) Meints of Cortland; parents-in-law, Robert and Lavonne Martin of Oakland; sisters-in-law, Vickie Greenwell of Omaha and Shelly (Jerry) Bader of Arvada, CO; brother-in-law, Gary (Jolene) Stromquist of Oakland; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Teda Wallman Meints; niece, Nicole. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church (2576 E Cherry Rd) rural Pickrell with Pastor Heather Brown officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Thursday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Wayne and Janet Wallman in charge. Cremation has taken place so there will be no viewing. A register book for signatures will be available on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Fox Funeral Home.
