Richard James Schmitz December 09, 1944 – April 13, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Richard James Schmitz, age 74, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Berryville, Arkansas. He was born December 9, 1944 in Cicero, Illinois the son of Emil A. and Evelyn (Campbell) Schmitz. On April 13, 2002 in Kimberling City, Missouri he was united in marriage to Joann Sterling, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sherri Streicher and her husband John of Beaverton, Oregon and Candy Opal of Chicago, Illinois; two sons, Dominick McLain and his wife Jennifer of Springfield, Missouri and Daniel W. McLain, III of Shell Knob, Missouri; one sister, Beverly Schaper of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister. Richard graduated from Main East High School in Park Ridge, Illinois. From August 11, 1965 until August 6, 1967 he served in the United States Navy. He then moved to Linden Hurst, Illinois and was a salesman for Fiat Auto in Chicago, Illinois. Before retiring he worked several years at Summer Fresh in Kimberling City and Jubilee Grocery in Branson where he enjoyed working and visiting with customers. In July, 2018 he moved from Kimberling City to Shell Knob to make his home. He was a member of Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Services and presentation by VFW Post 2203 will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob. Pastor Bill Kenagy will conduct the services. Burial will be at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob. Contributions may be made to Central Crossing First Responders, VFW Post 2203 or Central Community United Methodist Church in memory of Richard.
