Richard Dean Johnson, age 70 of Laurel Springs, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at his home. Mr. Johnson was born Thursday, May 13, 1948 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Thomas William and Nelia Evon Miller Johnson. Richard served his country in the United States Army. Richard loved his wife and family greatly. He enjoyed taking trips to Cherokee and gambling while he was there. In the wintertime he and Mary worked on puzzles, and he played computer games in his spare time. Richard also loved sitting on the front porch during the summer months. Mr. Johnson is survived by, his wife, Mary Royal Johnson, daughter, Jennifer Johnson Hinze of Wisconsin, son, Ricky Johnson of Fayetteville, brother, Daniel Johnson of Wilson, North Carolina. Four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Services will be held at a later date with Military Rites. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
