Nordith Simmons Geddes July 31 1930 March 22 2019

Obituary Nordith Simmons Geddes was reunited on Friday, March 22, 2019 with her loving husband of 54 years, Garth Lowe Geddes. Her passing from this life ended a 13 year separation from her eternal sweetheart Garth. Nordith was an ‘elect lady’, gracious and lovely, beautiful in body and spirit. She had a tender heart and an obedient spirit. Always prayerful, she trusted in the Lord and had great faith in His promises. She read out of the best books, especially the Book of Mormon. Nordith loved flowers, cats and rocking babies. She enjoyed visiting beautiful places in the world, but she was content living in the gorgeous Salt Lake valley with its majestic mountains. Nordith loved music and was an accomplished pianist and organist. She shared her talents willingly and freely. She also loved to sing. Nordith and Garth sang together often as she accompanied them on the piano, with many family and friends requesting them to sing at events. Nordith was born July 31, 1930 to Thomas Yates Simmons and Sylvia Sarah Ann Ericksen Simmons in Beaver Dam, Utah. She grew up in a cozy little house that, at times, served as a store and gas station to their community. As a young girl, Nordith often tended the store and manned the gas pumps. Nordith loved her family, growing up with two fun-loving and considerate brothers, LaMon and Dennis. As a teenager, she sang with the Beaver Dam tet musical group. Nordith met Garth at Utah State University where they were paired together in the chorus of the operetta, ‘Die Fledermaus’. So began their sweet love affair. They were married in the LDS Logan Temple on May 29, 1952. Garth was an officer in the U.S. Army, and Nordith, with their growing family, moved 32 times in 24 years of military service. Mother would make a clean, comfortable home for the family – a house of prayer, a house of song, a house of laughter. They lived in Washington, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Germany, California, Kansas and Panama. Mother soldiered on alone to care for the family while Garth served bravely in Korea and twice in Vietnam. Nordith had a great faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ. As a member of the LDS church, she served in many callings, including music leader, organist, teacher, Relief Society and Primary president. Nordith and Garth served as senior missionaries in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Mission and on Welfare Square. Nordith was an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. Nordith is survived by 5 of her 6 children: Claudia (Scott) Lambert, Lynn (Layne) Petersen, Christine (James) Wood, David (Michael Metts) Geddes, Eric (Vanessa) Geddes, David Palmquist (son-in-law). She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, and brother Dennis (Carolyn) Simmons. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Garth, daughter Jody Palmquist, parents Thomas and Sylvia Simmons and brother LaMon Simmons. A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So.), South Jordan, Utah on Friday March 29, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Beaver Dam Chapel 16025 N.
