Michael Malbasa, age 96, of North Ridgeville, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at Story Point Nursing Home in Avon Lake. He was born in Cleveland and had lived most of his life in Olmsted Falls before moving to Las Vegas for 14 years, and then to North Ridgeville in 2012. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII where he was a Sergeant with the 437th Fighter Squadron in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He worked as a manager in car sales at several local dealerships and was a member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church in North Ridgeville, where he was active on the golf league when he was younger. Michael was an accomplished artist especially portraits. He loved listening to big band music; boating in Vermilion and Huron area but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his former wife and mother of his children, Bernice Malbasa (nee Prince); son, Michael (Mary) of Grafton; daughters, Laura Malbasa (Gordon Gowans) of Oracle, Arizona, Linda O’Neill of West Palm Beach, Florida, Lisa Malbasa of Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren, Michael (Kristin) Malbasa Jr., Lara (Mike) Doup, Sarah (Koury) Henderson, Timothy (Kristin) Malbasa; great-grandchildren, Rachel Malbasa, Sean Malbasa, Madison Doup, Jack Doup, Joseph Henderson, Natalie Henderson and one sister, Mildred Salazar of Peru. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dragich and Catherine (nee Knezevich) Malbasa; brothers, Joseph and Eli Malbasa; sister, Ann Linderman. A Memorial Mass will be held 1 PM Saturday May 4, 2019 at St. Julie’s Church, 5500 Lear Nagle Rd., North Ridgeville. Rev. George Vrabel, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Private inurnment with full military honors will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, Oh. Memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s name to the Westside Catholic Center, 3135 Lorain Ave., Cleveland, OH 44113.
