Marilyn Southwell of North Tonawanda, NY and Fort Myers, FL passed-on peacefully, with family at her side on April 27th 2019 in Williamsville, New York at the age of 83. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, George; and is survived by sons Bob (Brenda) of Vandalia, OH, Gary (Tricia) of Chelmsford, MA and Jim (Yvonne) of Long Grove, IL; her three grandchildren Jonathon (Erin), Sarah (Jacob) and Austin; Sister-in-Laws’ Sue Southwell and Mickey Punnett; as well as nephews Steve Southwell and Ken Punnett. She was also preceded in death by parents Ruth and Ellis Punnett of Buffalo, NY. Marilyn was born on November 4th, 1935 in Buffalo NY. She graduated from The University of Buffalo in 1957 with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. Marilyn married George in 1958. While raising an active family, she was a much sought-after Substitute Teacher throughout Niagara County. With her family raised, she moved from teaching to social work for the county, where she tirelessly advocated for children and seniors. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother – a very caring individual who was deeply engaged in the community. Marilyn actively volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels, Mount Saint Mary Hospital, the Philanthropy Educational Organization, Mothers Club and the Wurlitzer Park Garden Club. She was a dedicated member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for more than 50 years. Marilyn and George cherished their time with family at their cottage on Horseshoe Lake near Muskoka Ontario, and upon retiring, enjoyed spending each winter in Fort Myers. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday May 2nd at Wattengel Funeral Home, Meadow Drive in North Tonawanda from 3-7 pm with shared remembrances at 6 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 am on Friday May 3rd at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, North Tonawanda. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marilyn’s life. For those wishing to make a remembrance, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are much appreciated.
