(Muniz) Hickman, age 74, of Snyder, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 19, 2019 in Lawton, Oklahoma at Willow Park Health Care Center. She was born August 8, 1944 in Sinton, Texas. Maria Hickman was a very loving full of life woman. Maria was raised by her father and mother. Whatever her parents did, she did. They chopped cotton and picked it throughout the summer. Maria picked cotton right along with her brothers and sisters. As years went by, she became a nurse’s aide. She worked at Ayer’s Nursing Home for years. She was a housewife and raised four kids, two girls and two boys. She then became disabled, but that didn’t stop her. She loved the sound of music. If it had a beat, she had to move her feet even if she had to dance alone. She loved cooking. You wouldn’t go hungry around her. She fed you even if you said you were full. She eventually became a grandmother to many grandchildren. When she saw them you could see her face light up with happiness. Even though she was ill, nothing stopped her and as her children all grew up and went their separate ways, her youngest son Joe stayed beside her all of his life. She left us strong as she went on and as much as it hurts we continue to be strong like she was in the end. Survivors include her son, Frankie Chapa, of Snyder, his children, Justin Chopa of Snyder, Veronica Padilla and her husband Israel Padilla of Tooele, Utah and Lane, Jordan and Jody Chapa, all of Snyder, daughter, Nina Chavez and her husband, Ricardo Chavez Treijo, of Snyder and their children, Jesse Chavez and his wife Susan, of Snyder, Antonio Chavez and his wife Alexis, of Snyder, Victor Chavez and his wife Lacie, of Indiahoma and Ricardo Chavez and his wife Ana, of Laredo, Texas, daughter, Rosa Ortega and her children, Jose and Adrian, of Del Rio, Texas and son, Joe Miranda, of Snyder and his children, Angel and Joe Miranda, of Lawton. She is also survived by her brother, Junior Muniz and his wife Eunice, of Snyder, sister, Janie Torres and her husband, Martin Torres, of Snyder, brother, Alex Muniz and his wife, Linda, of Snyder, fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Our other family members include Jo Ann Wilhite, Marita Chapa, Donna Cagel and Mary Anne Tarango-Hernandez.
