Margaretha’s Obituary Margaretha M. “Rie” Feenstra, 87, a resident of Haverhill since 1960, died peacefully in her home on Monday, April 22, 2019 with her children. Born, raised and educated in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, she was the daughter of late Jan Hermanus Bakels and Cato (Visser) Bakels. After emigrating to the United States with her husband and children, Mrs. Feenstra held various positions in companies such as Lucent Technologies in Quality Control and Dyonics in Andover, Massachusetts in Customer Service. She worked alongside her husband Jacob in the family’s business Feenstra Construction Company. She earned her certificate in Real Estate Sales in the early 1970’s and worked in property rentals for several years. Mrs. Feenstra pursued her love of singing and was a member of the Newburyport Choral Society for seventeen years. She enjoyed gardening, antique hunting, knitting, stained glass art crafting, and all sorts of music. Most recently her favorite past times were spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Deanna Feenstra of Haverhill, daughters and son-in-law, Katja and Paul Lavallee of Atkinson, NH, and Tanya Bonagura of Fremont, NH, seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, her sister Hetty Jurgens of Amsterdam, Holland, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob Feenstra in 2016 and daughter Monique (Feenstra) Davis in 2008. Private family services will be held and there will be no calling hours.
