Lala was the daughter of Dewey Day and Ava Bernice Day, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Darcella Dotta Harbour; two brothers, Dewey Day, Jr. and Dike Day; and a sister, Denise Day Vollmer. After graduating from Jordan Sellars High School in 1963, Lala moved to Brooklyn, New York where she lived and worked for many years. Lala was employed at New Horizon as a counselor. Throughout her tenure there, she earned several certifications that assisted her in excelling and nurturing many of her students to important career paths and to achieving higher educational goals. She retired from her job at New Horizon as a Counselor in 2008, after over 30 years. Lala was known for her impeccable style of grace and fashion-forward uniqueness. She believed in quality and accepted nothing but best in everything she did. Her elegant taste and forceful beliefs to always overachieve reflected so greatly through her. However, Lala is known mostly for being such a sophisticated lady and a loving mother, who often encouraged and practiced the old saying of a closed mouth does not get fed. She was a lady who spoke her mind and did not bite her tongue no matter who you were. Lala has a lifetime of achievements as she was a member of several organizations such as the Areme Chapter #86, Emoc Temple, in Brooklyn, New York from 1980 until 1996, and she became one of the founders of the Sophisticated Nubian Queens, from 1996 until her death, as Vice President. Lala was extremely independent, hardworking and disciplined. She enforced much of these morals into her family as she displayed her faithful values of loyalty, love, and respect to her family and friends. It was Lala’s cherishing heart that led to most of her friendships lasting for well over 50 years. Lala will always be remembered as a devoted mother, great grandmother, sister, mentor, and friend. Lala leaves to mourn her passing her three sons, David (Tammy) of Bronx, NY, Mark (Monica) of Brooklyn, NY and Liua Morrise (Michelle) of Alexandria, VA; four sisters, Betty Day, Cecelia Day and Vonda Gatling (Stafford), all of Burlington, NC, Mae Morrow (Jerry) of Manhattan, NY; four brothers, Billy Day (Connie) of Fredericksburg, VA, Glen Day (Yvonne) of Charlotte, NC, William Day (Arlene) of Staten Island, NY, Maurice Day of Burlington, NC; her grandchildren, David Werts, Dianetta Werts, Tiania Harbour, Gerald Werts (Ingrad), Dakaisha Foreman (Thomas), Jamour Harbour, Donte Harbour, Kendra Harbour Maybank, Mark Harbour, Jr, Tommy Harbour, Sienna Harbour and her great-grandchildren; Tulan, Olivier, Lamel, Kater, Donte Jr, Melody, Bella, Jacobi and Jacari. She also leaves behind her faithful and loving special friend, Bridget Mitchell and a host of nephews, nieces, great nieces, great nephews, and other relatives and friends.
