John’s Obituary John “Jinx” T. Kretsch, age 81, of New Ulm died on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Divine Providence in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian burial will be 10: 30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Monsignor Douglas Grams will celebrate the Mass, and burial will be in the Soldier’s Rest Section of the New Ulm City Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Tuesday (today) and continue from 9-10 am on Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-North Chapel in New UIm. John is survived by his wife, Mary “Jeanne” (Bushard) Kretsch of New Ulm, sons: Peter (Deborah) of Oklahoma City, OK, Kevin (Beth) of New Ulm, Bob (Jean) of Manitowoc, WI, Steve (Alissa) of New Um, daughter Cathy Schneider (Scott) of Rochester, MN, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, brother James (Karen) of New Ulm, sisters Joan Aune (the late Ross Aune) of Casper, WY, Jan Franta (Floyd Nagler) of Prior Lake, MN, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Rory Vesel; and brother-in-law, Ross Aune. John Thomas Kretsch was born February 8, 1938 at Loretto Hospital New Ulm, MN to John Sr. and Dolores (Green) Kretsch. He married Mary Jean Bushard on June 6, 1959. John grew up in New Ulm all of his life. He attended St Mary’s grade school through 8th grade. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School. He served in the Navy from 1956-1960. He returned to New Ulm and worked various jobs. Earlier in his life, John drove truck for Oak Grove, worked at Kraft, the Quarry, and Kretsch’s Bar. John worked for over thirty years for the New Ulm Public Utilities as a boiler operator until his retirement. John was an avid golfer, long time member of the New Ulm Country Club, with recognition for 2 hole-in-ones. John enjoyed camping trips with the family in younger days. He enjoyed sports, playing baseball, softball and bowling. He watched the Vikings, Twins and grandkids sports. He read the New Ulm Journal every day for the past 60 years and spent time listening to KNUJ and WCCO. He loved to play cribbage, was an avid Turner member for years and a lifelong member of St Mary’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice. Read More
