John B. Sevin, 97, of Ambridge, died Saturday, April 6, 2019 in Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver. He was born, December 5,1921 in Economy Borough, to the late Harry and Irene (Burland) Sevin. He was a retired bricklayer for the former A.M. Byers Corporation, and later worked as a security guard for the American Bridge Division of United States Steel Corporation. John was a proud member of the United States Army having been part of the world’s greatest generation during World War II. He was a member of HQ Company, 1st Battalion, 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division and engaged the enemy in the European-African Middle Eastern Theatre that included France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was the recipient of 4 Bronze Stars. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife, Jennie (Olson) Sevin, three brothers, Harry C. Sevin, Charles A. Sevin, and Daniel J. Sevin, two sisters, Orabel Ponevac and Bertha Alushin. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Phillip’s of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 2147 Ridge Road Extension, Economy Borough, by his pastor, The Rev. Jill McGregor. Interment with full military honors conducted by the Beaver County Special Unit and the US Army will follow at 12:30 PM in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or to Good Samaritan Hospice.
