Jessica Dawn Hougland Umphress, 37, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on April 1, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a brave battle with Systemic Scleroderma, which she was diagnosed with in June of 2015. Jessica was born on March 4, 1982 in Davis County, Iowa to Robert Lee and Kristi Jannene Downing Hougland Jr. She graduated from Davis County High School in 2000. On September 2, 2006, she married Dustin Umphress at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. The couple would later divorce. She has been in a relationship with Nate Norton since July 25, 2015 with plans for “Always and Forever.” Jessica was a fun-loving person. She enjoyed going to concerts, listening to country music, being outdoors, an occasional Bloody Mary, and being around any kind of animal. Above all, Jessica loved spending time with her children and attending their events. She was very close to her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, Justyn Hale of Oakland, Nebraska, Chloe and Ethan Umphress of Pulaski, Iowa; parents, Bob and Kris Hougland Jr. of Bloomfield; brother, Jason (Melissa) Hougland of Oskaloosa, Iowa; boyfriend, Nate Norton of Bloomfield; niece, Alexis Hougland; nephew, Chase Hougland; and numerous aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bob and Irene Hougland, Bill and Donna Downing; and two cousins, Jerry Hougland, Jaqueline Spurgeon. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with family present to greet friends from 4-6:00 p.m. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date at the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa.
