Irene passed away on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 after an extended health issue surrounded by family and friends. She lived an amazing 76 years. Mom was reunited with the love of her life, Tommy and other family members for an incredible heavenly Easter celebration. Irene was born May 6, 1942 in Salt Lake City to Lawrence and Nancy Bianca Rigby Crosland. She was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has lived in Salt Lake City, Oak Harbor Washington, and Layton. Irene married Tommy Raye Tomshack on August 29, 1969. They were blessed with three children; Merlin, Robin, and Tara. Irene worked for many years for Dairy Queen and Burger Stop. She spent her retirement years working from May to September at Blue Water Beach Resort Bear Lake. She enjoyed making lifelong friends everywhere she worked. Irene spent much of her life in service and support of the military. She was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, where she held positions such as chaplain and president. She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy, parents, in-laws, five siblings, and two great-grandsons. She is survived by her son Merlin (Teri) Tomshack, her daughters Robin (Brian) Olsen, Tara (Allan) DeVries, 20 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
