Imelda Ann Oglesby (known to many by her nickname “Sally”), of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Decatur, IL was called home to heaven at 12:40 am on April 10, 2019, her 96th birthday. She was receiving physical therapy at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a fall at her home. She was born April 10, 1923 in Harvel, IL to Bryan and Lucy (Meyer)Tucker, the third oldest of 11 children. She married Marvin G. Oglesby on September 13, 1952. They were married for 61 wonderful years until he preceded her in death in 2014. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Liz) Hensley and husband, Robin, of Mt. Vernon; and three grandchildren: Brandon Hensley of Detroit, Derek Hensley and wife Lindsey of Springfield, IL and Natalie Hensley, attending SIUE. She is also survived by sisters Mary Lou Butler of Springfield, Jo Ann Rettburg of Macedonia, OH; and brothers Bill Tucker of Butler, Gerald Tucker and wife Shirley of Girard, Paul Tucker of Austin, TX ; Jim Tucker and wife Mary of Houston, TX; David Tucker of Rocky River, OH; sisters-in-law Gwen Tucker of Girard and Carol Tucker of Avon Lake, OH; many nieces and nephews, and dear friend Louise (“Weezy”) Wilcox. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Philip, sister Rita Ellis of Orlando, FL; brother Robert Tucker and wife Vi Lee, brother Don Tucker of Girard, sisters-in-law Monica Tucker and Sue Tucker, and brothers-in-law Colonel Don Rettburg and Russell Butler. She was valedictorian of the Girard High School Class of 1941 and also completed some college courses. She was at home for many years while raising her daughter before returning to work as a casework supervisor at the Decatur Township Relief Office for several years. She and Marvin moved to Mt.Vernon in 1988 to be nearer to her daughter and family. Sally loved listening to classical music and appreciated fine art. She also enjoyed the challenge presented in playing cards, poker and bridge in particular, and was a formidable opponent! She was an avid reader and loved language, having an excellent command of it. Her sharp wit and feisty personality was complemented by her ladylike demeanor and impeccable manners. Sally was dedicated to her loved ones in every possible way, as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was very thoughtful and generous, performing many kindnesses for others without expecting credit or accolades. She took great interest in her grandchildren and was a very important influence in shaping their values and setting an excellent example for them. Her family will sadly miss her physical presence in our lives, but her legacy will live forever in our hearts. We are comforted in knowing she is with her beloved Marvin, whom she has missed more than words can say since his departure. Her Roman Catholic faith was extremely important to her; she took its precepts and beliefs very seriously and lived by them. She was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church in Mt. Vernon and volunteered for many years as an Eucharistic Minister, bringing Holy Communion to patients in the hospital. Per her wishes, there will be an 11:00 am graveside service on April 27, 2019 at Graceland Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur, officiated by Father Martin Smith.
