Obituary Service Details Ilah B. Helmick, age 91, passed away on March 27, 2019. Born in Portland, Oregon, Ilah grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was a graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she met and married her sweetheart, Richard R. Helmick in 1949. They were married for 62 years before his death in 2012. Ilah and her husband lived in Denver, CO; Kona, Hawaii; Hilo, Hawaii and most recently, Colorado Springs, CO. Ilah was an elementary school teacher until the Navy moved them to the East coast where they had their first child. They moved back to Boulder, then moved to Denver and raised their family of five children. Upon retirement, they moved to Hawaii, where they spent many happy years. Ilah was active in many organizations, including P.E.O., Great Books, children’s classes and adult Bible studies. Much of her time was spent volunteering and serving others. She and Dick were active in many churches where they were members over a lifetime. Ilah is survived by her children; daughter Barbara (James) DeJarnette of Colorado Springs, Elsa (Stephen) Wolff of Morrison and Sarah (David Staley) Charles of Alaska; and sons Peter Helmick of Kamuela, Hawaii and Eric (Terry) Helmick of Australia. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Ilah was a gracious, elegant lady with an inexhaustible energy for loving people. Her love for Jesus was her motivating passion as she served and prayed for others. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She will be deeply missed. Memorial contributions in Ilah Helmick’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice, or Chapter EP, P.E.O. for educational scholarships. Service Information
