Gwenevere Loyd Tranbarger, of Johnson City passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019. Gwen was born in Washington County. She was the daughter of the late Arch and Sarah Ball Loyd. Gwen graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1962, where she was valedictorian of her class. She attended East Tennessee State University’s Non Degree Program for Effective Supervision, Managing Through Communications, and Inter-Mediate Management, also Economics and Business Administration Courses through the American Institute of Banking. She went on to pursue a career in banking, becoming hired with Hamilton Bank in 1962 where she worked for 20 years. Gwen participated in many clubs and organizations during this time including: Bank Administration Institute where she became president in 1979, The American Institute of Banking, The International Consumer Credit Association, The Johnson City Credit Women International, Tennessee Association of Credit Women International, American Business Women’s Association, Mall Merchants Association, Downtown Merchants Association, United Way, Upper East Tennessee Chapter for St. Jude’s Hospital, and the Dawn of Hope Foundation Fund Raising Committee. During this time she received awards and recognition including: ABWA Woman of The Year 1967, Listed in the 1967 Edition of Outstanding Young Women of America, 1969 Edition of Personalities of The South, and the United Way Achievement Award 1978. After her retirement from banking she went to work for Beecham Laboratories as a secretary from 1982-1988, until the birth of her son. She then became a home maker. After her son was older she worked part time for the Johnson City School System as a secretary, while also serving time as The President of the PTSA. She was instrumental with the development and purchase for the sign welcoming students into Indian Trail Middle School along with the help of fellow PTSA members. After her son graduated school she retired all together to spend time with him and her husband. In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Carroll Tranbarger, sisters, Juanita and Euva, brother, Houston, two infant siblings, Mary Ruth and John Roy. She is survived by her son, David C. Tranbarger, sister, June Goss, several nieces, nephews and many friends. A Graveside and Committal service was held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at New Victory United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pastor Lenny Smith officiated. Family and friends served as pallbearers.
