Gene’s Obituary Gene Edward Pentecost, 83, of Church Street Athens, died Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born, November 13, 1935 in Vinton, VA, he was the son of the late Walter Berry and Mable Lee Garlick Pentecost. Gene was a loving son, husband, father, brother and friend. He retired from the Juvenile Detention Center in Princeton with 20 years of service. Gene served his country honorably with the U.S. Air Force having been stationed in Alaska. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas, Lewis, James and Walter Pentecost, Juanita Bush, Evelyn Webber, Edith Ray and Shirley Pentecost. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Judy Shumate Pentecost; One son, James “Jimmy” Elkins of Athens. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial services to celebrate the life of Gene Edward Pentecost will be held 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Mike McGraw officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Seymour Johnson AFB Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mercer County Humane Society, 961 Shelter Road, Princeton, WV 24739.
