Frederick J. Carroll, age 74, of Fonda, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville with his family by his side. He was born on August 8, 1944 at his family’s home in Worcester, a son of the late James Carroll and Gertrude Race Carroll. He was employed for many years as a Truck Driver for Ready Mix in Cobleskill and was also a longtime farm hand. He is survived by his companion of over thirty years Edna A. Smith of Fonda; four sons Scott Carroll of Palatine, Terry Carroll (Betty) of Amsterdam, Bradley Carroll (Kris) of Little Falls and Marvin Smith (Tara) of Oppenheim; two sisters Hannah DeMarco of East Northport and Trudy Crouch (Leon) of Richfield Springs; ten grandchildren James Carroll (Amanda), Ashley Sanford, Josh Carroll, Alex Carroll (Brooke), Brandon Sperbeck (Tiffany), Shantel Carroll, Desiree Towner, Zack Carroll, Brady Carroll and Cody Carroll; four great grandchildren Carson Jaquay, Brayden Sperbeck, Chloe Marshall-Towner and Brook Carroll and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his three siblings Merton Carroll, Clara Hotaling and Ida Walsh. Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Memorial visitation for family and friends will be prior to the service on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda immediately following the memorial service.
