Emery’s Obituary Emery Ray Eklund of Miltonvale Kansas went to be with his Lord on April 25, 2019 Emery was born at home near Lamar, Kansas on October 14th, 1929. His parents were Emery Paul and Cora Elizabeth (Rothfuss) Eklund. Emery was a studious child and enrolled at Miltonvale Rural High school at the age of 12. Following graduation from High School he attended Kansas State University for two years. Emery farmed during the day and weekends near Miltonvale while working at Beech Aircraft quality control in Wichita at night. On September 2nd, 1961 Emery married Juanita (Toni) White of Abilene Kansas. He eventually went to farming full time where he was a prominent, well respected farmer in the community. He was among the first locally to implement the practice of cash rent and was a strong proponent of soil conservation. He built miles of terraces for himself and others over the years. When Emery retired from farming in 1990, He and Toni traveled the world. Together they toured all of Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Their favorite travel memories were the local bus trips throughout the country with many of their friends along. He cared for Toni at home in recent years after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. They made daily trips to town for coffee and lunch until they both entered Presbyterian Manor in February 2017. Toni predeceased him after 56 years of marriage on March 17th 2018. Survivors children include Sherry(John) Kooiker of Hull Iowa, Steve(Teresa) White of Portland Michigan, Greg(Cathy) White of Clay Center, Kansas and Mark(Suzy) Eklund of Raytown, Missouri, A sister Meta Wendelken of Wakefield Kansas, a Brother Darrel(Nilda) Eklund of Topeka Kansas, 19 Grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Emery is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers-in-law, Vincent McNeil and Vernon Wendelken, granddaughter, Bonnie Lynn (Kooiker) Matulka and great-grandson, Aberine Paul Teachworth. Special thanks go out to the staff of the Presbyterian Manor for their care of our parents. Visitation will be Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Phelps Funeral Home in Miltonvale, KS Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 3, 2019 at F.C Hill Memorial Wesleyan Church in Miltonvale, KS.
