Elsa (Salvaterra) Barba, 91, of Solvay, passed away peacefully at Upstate University Hospital on April 5, 2019, with her family by her side. Elsa was born on December 28, 1927 in Tione, Italy to the late Emilio and Josephine (Failoni) Salvaterra. After immigrating to the United States in 1930, she was a lifelong resident of Solvay where she graduated from Solvay High School. She worked at New York Telephone Company and continued her career at Solvay Bank where she retired after 35 years of service. Elsa was a member of the Solvay Tigers Auxiliary and the Solvay Tyrol Club Auxiliary, along with being a member of the Solvay Senior Citizens where she arranged trips for many years. She was honored as Solvay’s Citizen of the Year for her work as a member of the Solvay Senior Citizens. Elsa loved camping, gardening and going to casinos, but her biggest love was the love she had for her family. Elsa was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Tony, and her brother Dario (Inga) Salvaterra. She is survived by her son, Thomas (Doreen) Barba, of Camillus; daughter, Cindi Barba (Dennis Coon), of Westvale; grandchildren, Brandon (Colleen) Barba and Kristie (Parry) Kitchner; sister, Irene Salvaterra; and four great-grandchildren: Sofia Barba, Anthony Barba, Giada Kitchner, and Lucio Kitchner. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 pm on Monday, April 8th at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Avenue. Funeral services will be held 8:45 am Tuesday at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 9:30 am at St. Cecilia Church, 1001 Woods Rd, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 5A of Upstate University Hospital for their care and compassion in taking care of Elsa during her last days.
