Edward’s Obituary Sullivan, Edward 1/10/1925 – 4/10/2019 Flushing Edward Sullivan: The Man, The Myth, The Legend, of Flushing Mi, left this Earth on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the age of 94. Ed was born Jan 10, 1925, in North Andover MA to immigrant parents Joseph A and Lena (Pickford) Sullivan. The family moved to Flint in the year he was born. Left fatherless at an early age, Ed dropped out of Northern High School and joined the Marines at 17, one month after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served two years in the South Pacific and two years in the States. He was honorably discharged and returned to Flint. He married Gertrude Orzechowski also a USMC veteran, on June 6th 1946. Ed joined the City of Flint Fire Department and retired as a Captain in 1974. He worked two jobs all of his life so his wife didn’t have to work, and his children could have everything they needed and almost everything they wanted. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. and Lena (Picford) Sullivan, his wife Gertrude (Orzechowski) Sullivan, his brothers; Francis, Dennis, Jack, Bernard, Daniel and William, and his sister’s Norah Bachman and Margaret Norman. He is survived and deeply missed by his children; Barry (Roseann) Sullivan of Ipswich MA; Gayle (Stanley Cahill) Sullivan of Salem MA; Eddie (Caron) Sullivan of Flushing MI. Grandchildren: Kevin (Kaly) Sullivan, Brigid Sullivan (Jeff) Hodnett, Michael (Kate) Cahill, Ryan Cahill, Kirsten Cahill (Russ) Kneipp, Meagan (Jesse Frantz) Cahill and Joseph (Skyler Hjelm) Sullivan. Great grandchildren; Cameron and Colin Sullivan, Tova nd Tatum Hodnett, Sean and Mackenzie Cahill, Corrinne and Eliza Kneipp and Rory and Tessa Frantz. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Helen Sullivan and Lois Sullivan and a brother-in-law Lyle Norman. As well as many of his “favorite” nieces and nephews, and friends and relations from all over the World. Ed was a member of the VFW, American Legion, P.L.A.V. Dom Polski, The Moose, The Knights of Columbus and The Ancient Order of Hibernians, he was named “Irish Father of the Year” in 2000. Of course to his family, he was ” Father/Papa/Big Papa of the Year” every year. Ed enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds and thwarting the squirrels in his yard, taking care of his pool, and playing golf. He loved hunting at his camp in the UP and to escape to Florida for family fun in the winter. He will be remembered for his great love of life and wonderful sense of humor. Cremation has taken place.
