Doug’s Obituary Douglas Truman Mabes, age 64, of Sweetwater, TN and formerly of Athens, TN passed away at the Rehabilitation Center at Standifer Place in Chattanooga Saturday, April 20, 2019 following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Arthur Elwood and Bonnie Mabes. Doug is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Miller Mabes and younger brother, Keith Mabes as well as grandparents Sarah ‘Granny’ Evans and Toy and Bertha Green. Doug enjoyed many things in life including his family and friends. He especially enjoyed those things allowing him to be outside such as riding horses, a wagon train, working on a farm, and riding a tractor. Doug is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Winona and Larry Howard of Athens, and Renee’ and Jimmy Bain of Athens; one brother, Allen Mabes of Etowah; several nieces and nephews; his girlfriend Pam Sisk of Sweetwater and children Tiffany, Douglas, and Rebecca; as well as a special friend Perry Philpott. Graveside services will be held at 2p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Coghill Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Shane White officiating.
