On April 9th, 2019 at 87 years of age, Dorothy (Tassell) St. Clair began her final journey home. Dorothy was born September 29, 1931, in Douglas, Alaska to Joseph and Lucy Tassell. She was a Raven, Dog Salmon in the Auk Kwan tribe of the Big Dipper House. She was 1 of 7 children and spent much of her childhood helping raise and look after her younger siblings. Despite growing up in a time of extreme racism and discrimination, she always had a kind heart. She gave even if she did not have enough for herself. After spending her early years in Douglas, she chose to follow in her brother Joseph’s footsteps and move to San Francisco. During her time there, she met George St. Clair who she briefly married. The two had 1 daughter together. She worked in San Francisco as a temporary office worker for a variety of companies, including timesheet entry for the Bechtel Corporation workers who were based in Alaska. She returned to Alaska in the late 1980’s where she worked for the State of Alaska until her retirement. Dorothy enjoyed many of the activities Alaska has to offer. Whether it was berry-picking with her nieces, or fishing trips on her nephew’s boat, she always enjoyed her time with family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucy Tassell; siblings, Marion Ezrre, Julian Tassell, Joseph Tassell, Patrick Tassell, Peter Tassell, and Dorothy Tassell. She is survived by her daughter, Tina St. Clair; granddaughter Rachel Tiffer; nieces, Angie Hunt, Dolores Healey, Rosita Meyer of Anchorage; nephews, Eddie Ezrre, Lizandro Ezrre and Patrick James Tassell; cousin Dusty Rhodes and many great nieces and nephews.
