Dorothy P. Miles Carter was born to Harold and Letha Thorsen on July 1, 1927 in Baker, Oregon. She passed peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2018 in Baker City, Oregon. Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland, Oregon. Following the service, friends are invited to the Eagle Valley Grange for a potluck luncheon, please bring a dish. Dorothy met Conrad Miles and they were married May 21, 1949 in Weiser, Idaho. Duane Miles and Alaina Miles Jones were born from this union. These years Dorothy and Conrad spent mostly in Richland, Oregon. They traveled to all of Duane and Alaina’s school sporting events. Dorothy worked at the Pine Eagle Coop as a bookkeeper and Conrad was postmaster at the Richland post office. Conrad passed away on August 22, 1969. Dorothy married Bill Wright of Fossil, Oregon on August 14, 1970. She was elected treasurer of Wheeler County. Later they moved to Prineville, Oregon and she worked as deputy tax collector for Crook County. Bill passed away on September 30, 1981. Dorothy later met and married Robert (Bob) Carter in Prineville. They began to travel around the United States and Europe. Bob and Dorothy enjoyed going to their grandkids sporting events and attended all their graduations. Bob passed away November 30, 2001. Dorothy loved to bowl and play pinochle. Her grandkids called her “Bowling Grandma”. Dorothy also loved to go camping with her family. Dorothy took great pride in her lawn and flowers. She loved to garden and her flowers were always beautiful. Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren. She always talked about them frequently. She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands and her brother Harold Thorsen. She is survived by her sisters, Wanda McCollum and Diane Freeman; son, Duane (Janet) Miles; daughter, Alaina (Mike) Jones; four grandchildren, Christopher (Dena) Jones, Jon (Korin) Miles, Whitney (Anthony) Jones and Jeff (Courtney) Miles. Dorothy is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eagle Valley Grange through Coles Tribute Center at 1950 Place Street, Baker City, OR 97814.
