Dora Willems Welch was born December 10, 1927. Dora lived with her parents, Hendrik and Dora Steinen Willems, and seven siblings, from Sevenum, The Netherlands, on their family farm in the Town of Plainfield, N.Y. Dora graduated with the class of 1946 from West Winfield Central School. She married Leonard Albert Welch on November 19, 1949. They resided on Academy Street in West Winfield where they loved and nurtured their three daughters, Beth, Susie, and Patty. Dora was a beloved babysitter for several families in the village. She loved to read, do puzzles, knit socks and mittens, walk in the village park with her dog, Ruby, and volunteer at the Federated Church food giveaway. Her greatest love was her grandchildren, Mackenzie, Sayward, Andrea, Kelly, JoLee and Daniel. They made her proud. She was their Dom. Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard who died in 1995. Dora is survived by her daughters, and their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and caregivers who loved her dearly. On Friday, April 19, 2019, loving, kind, and generous, Dora passed away at the age of 91.
