Deacon Emetu Tony Uduma Emetu November 12 1955 March 31 2019

Deacon Emetu Uduma Emetu, was born on November 12, 1955 in Lagos, Nigeria to the late Engineer and Elder Uduma and Eke Idika Emetu of Eastern Nigeria. He departed this earthly life Sunday, March 31, 2019 in Columbia, South Carolina. “Tony”, as he was affectionately known, was reared by staunch Christian parents in a Christian home. At an early age, he attended the Ohafia Central Presbyterian Church in Elu Ohafia. He was educated at Zixton Primary Boarding School in Ozubulu Eastern Nigeria where he graduated in record time skipping two classes yet still came out in Division One. He also attended the Prestigious Government High School where he skipped one class and graduated Division One. Both his elementary and high schools were the only element and boarding schools in the Eastern regime of Nigeria. After high school, he obtained his Advance Level Certificate. In 1976, he graduated in two and a half years of a four year program from Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia; a record remaining unbroken. He proceeded to further his education Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, Illinois where he obtained his Master’s Degree in a record time of eleven months. Emetu went back to Africa where he completed his National Youth Service, worked as Information Officer and became administrator and later general manager of Sky Builders. He taught briefly and opened the company Carbondale International, Ltd and was a successful businessman. Back in the United States he worked at Kelwood Inc. in Perry, Ga, Tuc Industry in Illinois, Thermo King in Louisville, Georgia and Vernay of Milledgeville, Ga, to mention a few. Tony was a devoted Christian and was ordained Deacon in Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church in 2013. He stood firmly in what he believed in. Mr. Emetu was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, NNenna Anyafu Olokudun and Nne Kalu. Left to cherish precious memories are: his devoted wife of forty-one years, Bobbie Wells Emetu; children, Tony, Anthony (Yvette), Chinyere and Nnanna Emetu, Chidozie and Quintin Lewis; grandchildren, E’Miyah Beard, Alandria, Aniya, NaBria, Anthony, Jr. and Abrielle Emetu and Michonne Ulari Nnanna; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other loving relatives and friends.
