Charles Perry Bryant September 19 1929 April 21 2019

Charles’ Obituary Hark! Let it be known, Charles Perry Bryant is no more. Godspeed! Easter morning brought with it the passing of my maternal grandfather. At 89 years of age it is rightly said that Perry lived a good and full life. His love of his family remains a testament to love’s ability to conquer all. Whether through financial strife and the accompanying stigma of finding oneself in the lower rungs of the socioeconomic “ladder” or the challenges of raising children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike sometimes in the absence of primary caregivers this man, my paw-paw made it clear that love, even when you had little else, could be enough. CP Bryant was a giver. So many folks in the service industry are. He owned restaurants and was a chef for decades even after working as a meat packer in the Stockyards of Fort Worth. He later went on to head the butcher shop at a local market when we all lived in Wichita Falls. I’m reminded that during that time in WFTX he and my uncle (his youngest son, just a few months from my own age) and I all shared a bed that was a trundle frame pushed together with queen bedding over double twin mattresses. It’s good to remember where you come from. We may not have had much but we never wanted for anything. With the love of my mother and her father, I was given every opportunity to succeed. I’m forever in the debt of my whole family for who I am today. Perry had several “claims to fame.” He won a state championship in HS football for Quanah, TX back when “helmet” was a curse word. He drove the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile. He worked closely with Angelo George to help the George family develop the recipes and he supplied the choicest cuts of brisket in the early days of the now famous Angelo’s BBQ on White Settlement in Fort Worth. We were always treated like kin there. We always sat at Skeet’s big round table and never had to ask for anything. Still the best spot in the whole wide world if for no other reason. He loved bluegrass. He loved fishing. He loved his family. He’d give you the shirt off of his back even if he didn’t have another. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Please feel free to come and support our family. And so, farewell Charles Perry Bryant. As Paw-Paws go, I had the best. Love You, sir. Godspeed! He is survived by his daughters; Jenny Bosley of Denton, Jill Hale(Bobby) of Sanger, sons, Johnny Bryant of Azle and Kevin Bryant, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters, Norma Jo Parker and Shirley Thompson and brother Max Lee Bryant. If you should desire, the family requests in lieu of flowers, making a donation to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or your favorite charity.
