Bill R. Messer was born to Jack and Edith Messer on November 15, 1933 in Louellen, Kentucky and was called home at the age of 85 on April 13, 2019 in Clarksburg, WV. Bill married his beloved wife of 59 years and 10 months, Mary Pauline Lovely in May of 1959 in Webster Springs, WV. Bill was a loving son, husband, brother, father and grandfather. Bill and Pauline have lived in Curtin for 59 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bill was an exceptional fly fisherman, which he was taught by his friend and father in law George Lovely. He had a real love of animals, especially his dogs. Bill was also a wonderful gardener and was said to possess a green thumb. Bill was a Korean Army Veteran serving his country well. He was president of the coon hunters club, a third degree master mason and a member of the Webster County CB club. Bill was a retired UMWA coal miner with 38 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline, daughters, Sue Lendrum, Bernadine (David) Plymale, Mary K. (Tim) Tharp and son, Gary (Diane) Messer; sisters, Sandra (Bud) Hammond and Patricia (Alan) Sutphin and a brother, Larry (Janet) Messer; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and also numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, son, Billy Jr. Messer, precious grandson Joshua Ray Given and his first wife Bernadine Moffatt Messer, brothers, Bobby, Richard, Donald and Eugene and also a sister Darlene Deel. Service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday April 18, 2019 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with Pastor Larry Lovely officiating. Burial with military honors and masonic rites will follow at Union Cemetery, Parcoal Friends may join the family for visitation 6-9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
