Betty Podolan, age 91, of New Haven, passed away on April 18, 2019, at home with her family by her side. She was born on February 13, 1928, in New Haven, to the late John and Mary Peters. She married Ernest Podolan, on June 27, 1946, in Mount Clemens, he preceded her in death on July 12, 2013. She enjoyed following New Haven sports, and was inducted into the Hall of Honors for Athletics at New Haven High School. She was the first woman treasurer and the first woman council member in the Village of New Haven, and was an honorary member of the Women’s Relief Corps. She is survived by her children; Edward (Pat) Podolan, Lynda (George) Fordyce, James (Diane) Podolan, Dennis (Dorothy) Podolan, Meribeth Fordyce, and Jerry (Becky) Podolan, her 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Podolan, and 6 sisters. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in the Jowett Funeral Home – 57737 Gratiot, New Haven. Pastor Michael MacDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Centennial Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday, April 22, 2019, from 2:00pm to 7:00pm and Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from 10:00am until time of service. Pallbearers will be Michael Podolan, Jason Fordyce, George Fordyce, James Podolan, Jerry Podolan, and Nick Guerrero. Memorial tributes may be made to First Congregational Church.
