Bessie’s Obituary COLD BROOK – Bessie A. Baker, 87, formerly of Rose Valley Road, died on January 30, 2019 at FoltsBrook Center, Herkimer, where she had been a resident since this past October. Mrs. Baker was born on December 24, 1931 in the Town of Ohio, a daughter of the late Robert and Abbie (Hoyt) Hammond. She graduated from Poland Central School and furthered her education at a business school in Syracuse. On October 15, 1955, Bessie was united in marriage with James H. Baker at St. John’s Church, Newport. She was a dedicated homemaker to her husband and seven children. Jim preceded her in death on May 1, 2006. Bessie became a Jehovah’s Witness and was a longtime member of Central Riverside Congregation, Utica. Survivors include six children, Jeffory (Phyllis) Baker of Rome, Robert (Darlene) Baker of NC, Dennis (Nancy) Baker of Ilion, Clayton Baker of Utica, Christina (Paul) Zaleski of Utica and Matthew (Barbara) Baker of Cold Brook; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Bessie was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila Baker; and by nine siblings. The compassionate care provided by the staff at FoltsBrook Center will never be forgotten by Bessie’s children. Also, a special thank you is extended to Fred and Sue Talbot for all the love and concern shown to their mother. In accordance with Bessie’s wishes, a private graveside service will take place at Cold Brook Cemetery in the spring and there will be no calling hours. Read More
