Babette Thomasy of Eltingville passed away on Sunday April 28, 2019 at the Addeo Hospice. Born in West New York NJ to the late Ernest and Bessie Bodenmann. Babette spent all of her childhood summers at her parents bungalow in the “country”, at the shore in Staten Island. After her marriage to Theodore she lived for a brief time in Dumont NJ and then settled in Eltingville where she raised her family. Babette was a devoutly religious woman and was actively involved in many parish activities at St. Clare’s, which was her home parish. She volunteered as a teacher in their CCD program, as well as being both a Girl and Cub Scout leader, she was a Eucharist Minister, a member of the Rosary Society, St. Clare;s Mother’s Club, the Varsity Club and the Blue Army of Fatima Unit, where she organized and led many pilgrimages both home and abroad. For over 50 years she was a member of both the Franciscan Third Order of St. Elizabeth and the Staten Island Ladies of Charity. She briefly worked as a legal secretary on Staten Island for a short period of time. Her husband of 45 years, Theodore ( Ted) passed away in 1991. She was also pre deceased by her daughter Barbara who died in 2007. She is survived by her sons Steven and Richard, her 3 grandchildren and her 2 great grandsons. She is also survived by her long time friend and care taker Joann, for whom her family is most thankful to for all she did. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m and from 6-8 p.m. at the John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc. 28 Eltingville Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday beginning at 9:45 a.m. at the Church of St. Clare’s.
