BRAINTREE – Alvan K. Porter a longtime Braintree resident and wonderful father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 89 years, at home on April 10, 2019. Son of the late Elmer Porter and Elizabeth (Watts) Porter. The youngest of 5 children he had two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his sister Ruth Landry of Ocean Park, Maine. He was predeceased by the love of his life Mary (Thomson) Porter in January 2009. He was a graduate of Brighton High School. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy having served for four years on the USS Monterey (CVL-26). He worked until the mid-90s as a fence erector. He is survived by his children Elizabeth Burgess and Robyn Adams and their husbands Conal and Jim. Alvan leaves behind four grandchildren, Conal Burgess, Violet Burgess, Owen Adams and Brendan Adams, in addition to many nieces and nephews. A brief funeral service will be held on Monday April 22nd, 2019 at 10.30 A.M. at the BRAINTREE Peck Funeral Homes, 516 Washington Street, Braintree, following along with a graveside service at 11.45 A.M. at the Braintree Cemetery. Donations may be sent to the MSPCA (www.mspca.org).
