Alan’s Obituary Alan T. Myers, 91, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Erdenheim, PA went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Gwynedd Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lansdale. He was the loving husband of Virginia “Ginnie” (McCord) Myers for 67 years. Al was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late William J. Myers and the late Florence (Brigham) Myers. He graduated from Germantown High School in Philadelphia, class of 1945. Al worked as a gravedigger for Chelten Hills Cemetery in Philadelphia. He then served in the US Navy during WWII where he was based in Guam. Al was employed as an installer, then a deskman, and later as a warehouse supervisor for the former Bell of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He also worked as a school bus driver for the School District of Springfield Township in Montgomery County, as a warehouse manager for the former Flow Engineering in Flourtown (later merged with Ives Equipment Corporation), and as a church ton for Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Germantown and a Presbyterian church in the Upper Darby area. Al was a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Germantown where he served as an Elder and a member of Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels in the Montgomery & Bucks Counties and taught English Second Language classes to Korean adults. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader of books, especially Christian books and the Bible. Al also enjoyed singing hymns, family gatherings at their summer bungalow, and traveling within the US. In his younger years, he played basketball, baseball and soccer. Al loved spending time with the family, especially his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He was always working on a project and thinking about the next one. Al and Ginnie supported many people in the mission field and hosted brain injured children and their families from all over the world and many others in their home for years. He was a faithful, hardworking, strong-willed, compassionate, giving man who had a good sense of humor. Al was always willing to help others and was a man of faith who served the Lord all his life. In addition to his wife, Ginnie, Al is survived by his son, Alan S. Myers & wife, Katharine of Oreland, PA; his daughter, Ellen M. Koudis & husband, Aristidis of Souderton, PA; his six grandchildren – Alan “Chip”, Alison, Ginette, Daniel, Brian, & James; and his ten great-grandchildren – Michaela, Alan F., Ana, Joey, Katie, Jackson, Cooper, Jameson, Madysen, & Reagan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Florence & Nancy and two brothers, John & Walter. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11:00 am at Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1119 Church Road, Oreland, Pennsylvania 19075.
