Agnes Weltz, daughter of Albert and Mary (Hildenbrand) Weltz, was born June 28, 1926 on the family farm southwest of Anamoose where she grew up and attended a nearby country school. Being the oldest child, Agnes, along with her parents, cared for her younger siblings throughout her teenage years. She then met and began courting the love of her life, Elmer Schmidt. Elmer was inducted into the United States Army and, following his honorable discharge, they were united in marriage on January 10, 1946 in McClusky. They made their home on a farm south of Anamoose for a time before moving to a farm south of Martin where they farmed and began raising their family. They later moved to a farm west of Anamoose where they lived and farmed until they retired and moved into Anamoose in 1985. Following Elmer’s death in December of 2009, Agnes joined her daughter Kathy and family, and had made her home with them since. Agnes portrayed her love of music by playing the piano or organ daily. She had a God-given gift of ‘playing by ear’. She loved her beautiful yard, always busying herself there and in her garden and truly enjoyed spending time with her ‘special friends and neighbors’. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who often frequented her home. Agnes leaves behind her children and their families, daughter, Mary Jane Schmidt (Tom Graham) of Poulsbo, WA; son, Glenn (Teddy) Schmidt of Underwood and their family: Scott (Missy) Schmidt and Jaden of Lisbon, Kyndra (Jacob) Aberle of Denver, CO, Jason (Amanda) Schmidt and Ella Louise of Underwood, and Glenda (Glenn) Earl and Payton & Ethan of Underwood; daughter, Kathy (Leroy) Becker of Anamoose and their family: Chris (Lacey) Becker and Everette, Greyson & Rhodes of Anamoose and Alyssa (Daniel) Weigel and Shiloh, Micah & Gideon of Menoken; son, James (Monica) Schmidt of Anamoose and their family: Jessica Bailey and Braden and Bostyn of Towner, Heather (Bruce) Hase and Haley, Callie & Macy of Linton, and Joshua (Ashley) Schmidt and Brooklyn & Easton of Anamoose; and son, Stacy Schmidt of Devils Lake and his son Preston. Agnes is also survived by her sisters, Wyonne (Marvin) Riskevich of Baldwin and Donna Hauser of Sawyer; and her brother, Dennis (Jeanette) Weltz of Anamoose. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents, Albert & Mary Weltz; grandson, Chad Becker; and her brothers, Clifton, Gerald, Kenneth and Stanley Weltz.
