Burial with full military honors will follow in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. 1SG (Retired) Rudolph Elizondo died Tuesday, April 16, 2019 in Lawton at the age of 93. He was born May 4, 1925 in Lavernia, Texas to Fructoso and Concepcion Elizondo. He grew up in Lavernia where he also graduated high school. He married Concepcion Hernandez on August 13, 1949 in Eden, Texas. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, entering the Army on Thanksgiving Day. He retired at Fort Sill on December 31, 1970 after more than 26 years of service. He served tours of duty in Korea, Vietnam twice, Japan and Germany. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Expert Badge with Rifle, the Bronze Star Medal and five awards of the Good Conduct Medal. He began a new career with International Paper Company after his military retirement. He worked for the paper company until 1984. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Rudolph was also a master gardener, enjoyed cooking and smoking meats and liked watching his cows. Survivors include his wife, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Rhonda Elizondo, Elgin; four grandchildren, Tony Elizondo and wife Melanie, Thomas Elizondo and wife Kindsey, Morgan Satterwhite and husband Dillon and Lauren Sheive; three great grandchildren, Easton, Calder and Merritt; three sisters, Sarah Santos, Mary Louise Palomo and Rebecca Campos; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, three brothers, Aviel, Raul and Israel, preceded him in death.
