Virginia’s Obituary Virginia Caroline Melcher, age 88, long-time Belleville resident, formerly of Allen Park, MI, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Glen Abbey Assisted Living Care Center, Canton, MI. She was born May 4, 1930 in Detroit, MI, daughter of Charles Frederick & Helen Maybell (Griffin) Engers. Virginia was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Boston, MI. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking. She loved to travel. Her passion was senior citizens. She helped set up the Monroe, MI, senior center, and then founded the Van Buren September Days Senior Citizens, where she was Director. Mrs. Melcher is survived by three children: Cynthia (John) Williams of Belleville, MI, Pamela Melcher of North Carolina, and Bryan Melcher of Belleville, MI; four grandchildren: Jonathan Williams, Jason Williams, Cody Melcher and Shannon Melcher; also numerous extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 63 years, Donald Edwin Melcher, on October 1, 2014. Visitation will be 1-3 PM Tuesday, March 12, 2019 with a 3:00 PM Funeral at David C. Brown Funeral Home, 460 E. Huron River Dr., Belleville, MI 48111 (734)697-4500. Rev. John W. Schwartz will officiate. Entombment will follow at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Van Buren September Days Senior Center, and would be appreciated.
